Salmon Fishing in the Yemen [View Trailer 1]
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is an inspirimg story about a Sheik who wants his people to enjoy the spiritual experience of fishing in spite of some local objections. The English bureaucracy led by Patricia Maxwell, (Thomas) finds the Salmon Fishing story while looking for a good story for the politicians. The Salmon idea is fine except for Dr. Alfred Jones, (Ewan McGregor) who believes that the idea is completely stupid. Harriet (Emily Blunt) works for the Sheik and devotes her energy to getting the project going. When Dr. Jones says that the project will cost 50 million pounds the Sheik deposits the amount in a bank account which triggers his action. To complicate matters we observe Jones and his wife going through a crisis and Harriet having doubts about her boyfriend with interesting consequences. “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” is not only a well written, but a brilliantly acted film that should attract a wide audience. On a third viewing I believe that this is one of the best films of recent years and want to see it again.
